Storyline Online

Here is a unique site perfect for students who love to listen to books. Storyline Online offers many videos of talented actors reading favorite storybooks. The video footage switches between shots of the actor reading, and shots of the book's illustrations. There are even optional captions, so that the student can read along. The site also provides lists of activities related to each book, which students and parents can work on together. All in all, Storyline Online takes a simple idea and executes it beautifully. Children of any age can listen to the storybooks. The activities are geared toward older students, probably grade 3 or so. Check it out!

Reading Rainbow

Butterfly in the sky.... I can fly twice as high!
The wonderful PBS kids show Reading Rainbow now has a great interactive website, designed to encourage a love of books and reading among children ages 4-8.
On the Reading Rainbow site, kids can find lists and descriptions of books that have been featured on the show. There are also several interactive games, and several fun printables.

Students might also enjoy reading the stories featured on the Young Writers and Illustrators Contest page. Reading these great stories written by their peers might inspire students to enter the contest themselves!

Roy the Zebra

Roy the Zebra is a fun site for emerging readers. This well designed website features interactive reading games, guided reading stories, literacy worksheets, and even songs. All of the interactive reading games are listed here. Students will enjoy the 9-part guided reading story of Roy the Singing Zebra. Dive into the world of Roy the Zebra today!

FunBrain Math Arcade

Fun Brain is a site with a lot going on. There are many links to other sites and ads. The most valuable section of FunBrain for students is the Math Arcade. Students can enter their gender and age, choose a game piece, and move through a variety of fun math games. Check it out!

Prongo

Prongo.com offers games for students in preschool - 6th grade. The games for preschoolers are less educational, as they mainly focus on practicing with the computer mouse. For older students, however, Prongo.com has a variety of good games, with a focus on math. Simply click on your age group to see a list of available games. Batter's Up Baseball, Lemonade Larry, and Farm Stand are a few of the fun math games you can try at Prongo.

Funschool

There are a lot of great games on Funschool! It can be a little confusing to navigate, however. We were able to find lists of games organized by grade level, so we will post links to those lists for your convenience:

There are games that focus on both reading and math, as well as science.
One down-side to Funschool is that there are a lot of advertisements on the site. Parents, you may want to point these out to your students so they don't accidentally click on them and leave the Funschool site.

SCHOLASTIC: Online Activities and Interactive Learning for Students in Grades Pre-K - 12

Scholastic.com is an extremely dense site full of educational activities for students of all ages. When you arrive at the Student Activities page of the Scholastic website, you can click on the correct tab to choose a grade level. There are many language arts and math activities listed for each grade level. You may also choose to click on Computer Lab Favorites and choose an activity by subject matter. There is a lot to explore at Scholastic.com, a great educational site with something for everyone.

Starfall.com

Starfall.com is a website dedicated to helping children have fun while learning to read. According to the site, it is primarily designed for first grade, but also useful for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and second grade.
The site is easy to navigate, organized into four levels: ABC's (Let's Get Ready to Read); Learn to Read; It's Fun to Read; I'm Reading. Each level of difficulty of Starfall features bright graphics and engaging activities.
